New Additions at Wisp Create
Ultimate Beginner Experience
Learning to ski or board will be even easier this ski season at Wisp at
Deep Creek Mountain Resort. Along with the addition of a ski carpet,
visitors will find two new triple chairs at Chairs 2 & 3 and the Wisp “Get
On Board” Season Pass.
Beginners will enjoy the ease and convenience of the new ski carpet. The
moving walkway replaces the old rope tow at Belly Flop. The newest triple
chairs at Wisp are replacing the doubles at Chairs 2 & 3, which increase
the 2 lifts’ capacity by over 50%. Beginners will also benefit from the
lower top and mid-station unloading ramps and the ability to vary lift
speed for easier loading and unloading.
“Our newest triple chairs and ski carpet are considered a giant step in
establishing Wisp as a great resort for beginner skiers and riders,” says
Hank Thiess, General Manager at Wisp at Deep Creek Mountain Resort. “We
are truly excited about the experience our guests will have with these new
additions.”
Along with these additions comes the new Wisp “Get On Board” Season Pass.
For $249, first-time skiers and boarders receive an unlimited season pass
upon the completion of three lessons with their certified instructors.
Three rentals are included in the pass purchase price, past season pass
holders are not eligible for this product.
2003/2004 Wisp Season Passes can be purchased online, by calling (301)
387-4911 Monday - Friday from 9 am - 5 pm or passes can be purchased in
person at Rudy’s at Wisp Monday - Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm and Saturday &
Sunday from 9 am to 7:30 pm.
Wisp at Deep Creek Mountain Resort is also celebrating its 48th birthday
this year by rolling back prices of lift tickets, lessons and rentals to
its opening day.
On Sunday, December 14, 2003 and Monday, December 15, 2003, a two-day lift
ticket is $7 per person, two day rental equipment is $7 per person and a
90 minute group ski or snowboard lesson is $7 per person. With the
purchase of the Sunday-Monday multi-day ticket, Saturday’s lift ticket is
only $14. Both hot dogs and soft drinks will cost 48 cents each all day
Sunday and Monday.
Opened during the winter of 1955/56 under the direction of its founder,
Helmuth Heise, Wisp has evolved from a rope tow and one room building with
pot belly stove into one of the premier four season resorts in the
Mid-Atlantic region.
Wisp lies in the heart of Garrett County, the western most county in
Maryland. It is less than a three-hour drive from the metropolitan areas
of Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh. Morgantown, WV and
Cumberland, MD are just 45 minutes away.
