Picture yourself floating
on crystal clear waters under a thick forest canopy while learning more
about the forest plants and animals from a personal tour guide. You may
think you need to travel to distant exotic locations to achieve such
serenity, but in fact, it's less than two hours from the
Baltimore/Washington area. Leave your pager and cellular phone behind as
you relax aboard a canoe as part of the Department of Natural Resources
Outdoor Adventure program along the Upper Potomac in Allegany County.
DNR's Outdoor Adventure program helps inspire stewardship and appreciation
for Maryland's natural resources by creating opportunities for outdoor
adventure recreation on public lands. Come explore areas of the Potomac
River through the valleys of the 41,000-acre Green Ridge State Forest.
Trips can be scheduled on any day from June 5 through August 29, 1999 and
on weekends in September and October upon availability. For only $50 per
person, enjoy a continental breakfast to get you started and a light lunch
to keep you going. DNR guides point out sights and sounds along the way
and return transportation is provided. Trips begin in the morning and last
approximately five hours. DNR can accommodate groups of 4-12 people.
Canoeing experience is not necessary. Equipment is provided. Children ages
9-13 may ride along for half price. You must be at least 14 years old to
paddle. Space is limited.
